About this event

Join the Showcase "Food Industry" - Hamburg x Sapporo to gain insights into sustainability trends in both city's food industries.

The growing necessity to transform advanced countries such as Germany and Japan into more sustainable societies also demands solutions from the food industries. How can we eat sustainably? How can food companies innovate successfully to meet these new demands? What role can startups play in this puzzle? And how can countries, regions and cities play an active role in building the necessary framework for this change to take place?

These are questions that Hamburg and Sapporo, both cities with a population of approx. 2 million people, have to tackle to build a liveable future for their inhabitants.

As one of Japan's designated eight startup regions, Sapporo aims to establish itself as one of the leading centers of innovation in the country. With the importance of the city's surrounding prefecture Hokkaido for Japan's agriculture, it is only natural that one of the focal topics for this drive is the city's food industry.

Likewise, Hamburg has developed a strong ecosystem for food innovation with established companies and startups both being active in the city and creating new ideas. The city itself is also moving into the field by considering food one of the important future topics to look at in the citys strategy discussions for the coming decades.

Thus, this event aims to build a bridge between both city's food ecosystems to encourage bilateral exchange and learnings for a sustainable future, both in Germany and Japan. Join us, if you would like to learn how the future of the food industry is being designed in Hamburg and Sapporo.
