Japamburg Meetup 2/2023

Welcome back to our next Japamburg meetup in March 2023!

In this event we will take a closer look at the interrelations between Hamburg's and Northern Germany's life science industry and research and Japan.

At the latest during the corona pandemic, the medical and life science sector moved into the public spotlight and grew strongly at the same time. In Japan as well as in northern Germany however, the sector has been expanding for some time. Factors such as demographic change and a growing interest in a healthy lifestyle are increasing demand. At the same time, the research field offers space for far-reaching innovations, which both established international companies and young start-ups are trying to advance into.

In order to network the medical and life science cluster around Hamburg with that around Kobe, a partnership was created between Life Science North and the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation, the corresponding cluster management organisation from Kobe. In addition, many companies in the sector maintain laboratories and factories in both Germany and Japan. Both countries have well-trained specialists with a lot of know-how as well as a rapidly growing market for products and services in the medical and life science sector.

But what opportunities are there for start-ups from northern Germany to gain access to the Japanese market, what hurdles can be encountered and what advantages does it offer exactly? What else can German and Japanese companies, start-ups and cluster managers from the medical and life science sector learn from each other? And what makes Hamburg stand out in the industry, especially for Japanese partners?

We want to talk about these and other questions with representatives from industry, cluster management and the start-up scene on 27 March.
