What business opportunities does the Japanese Railway Market offer to EU SMEs?
DJWパートナー日欧産業協力センター主催イベント
History of the Japanese railway system is tied to the first railroad opened 1872 between Shinbashi, Tokyo and Yokohama that quickly became one of the most recognizable symbols of modernization and westernization. Ever since the railway infrastructure in Japan is used by millions of passengers every year. In FY2019, Japanese railway transportation that span from the local infrastructure and trams to the long-distance bullet trains carried over 25 billion passengers. The trains remain the dominant transportation choice in Japan, with 30% of people using it in Tokyo alone. 72% of passenger distance travelled in Japan is tied to the railway system.
Recently, new opportunities tied to the Economic Partnership Agreement have arisen. They put greater focus on international cooperation, standardization and global trade. The Operational Safety Cause, the biggest non-tariff barrier in the market that was stopping the European companies from securing a contract has been revised under the EPA, which now allows for the government entities and certain JR Groups to implement large contracts under the international public procurement rules.
The webinar targets EU companies seeking to newly develop or strengthen their current positions in Railways Market in Japan.
