Working Group "Sustainability": Product-Related Sustainability in Focus

Welcome to the DJW Working Group "Sustainability"!

Our DJW member, Jean Bauer, who has been actively involved in the field of sustainability for 10 years and has been self-employed in this area since 2023, has established a new working group within DJW to provide a platform for direct exchange on this incredibly important topic within DJW members!

The working group brings together companies of all sizes and industries, self-employed individuals, private individuals, and anyone interested in the topic of "Sustainability in the German and Japanese economy." The goal is to understand and compare the diverse regulations of both countries, identify market trends, exchange experiences and perspectives, and collaboratively find practical solutions.

With the upcoming Omnibus Regulation, product-related sustainability is moving further into the spotlight. For manufacturers distributing products in the European Union, existing and future requirements – such as REACH, RoHS, or the Digital Product Passport (mandatory from 2026) – pose significant challenges.

These regulations demand a high level of transparency and data integration across all departments. Only through digitalized, cross-functional information flows can the required product data be made available at the right time and place. Furthermore, the implementation of interoperable data spaces along the entire supply chain – up to the end consumer – is becoming increasingly important.

This topic is particularly relevant for manufacturers of physical products (e.g., from the automotive, mechanical engineering, or electronics industries) with sales markets in the EU.

Meeting Flow

During our meetings, all participants are invited to share their opinion and alternative solutions on these issues. We like to encourage everybody to contribute with their own experiences bettering our understanding. The main spoken language will be English, but questions can be posed in German and in Japanese as well.
