New Ways to Experience Art - A Guided Visit to AR Biennale

Augmented Reality (AR) is a new technology that allows to virtually place objects into a given space. Augmented reality can help company managers determine how to best place a new machine in their factory and allows gamers to catch Pokémon in the street, but it is also an exciting new way to experience art.

Until 24 April 2022, Düsseldorf is home to the world’s first AR Biennale. Nineteen artists from various countries, including Japan and Germany, exhibit their works outdoors around NRW-Forum, Ehrenhof and Hofgarten. Using an app, visitors can view the digital sculptures on their own smartphone or tablet and interact with them in real time.

Update: Unfortunately Dr. Oliver Fix, Director Corporate & Public Affairs at Canon Deutschland GmbH, is unable to join. Dr. Birgit Witte, Special Projects Manager at Cognitas, was in charge of the technical side of the realization and has kindly agreed to step in and take interested DJW members for an exclusive guided tour of the AR Biennale, introducing the ideas and technology behind it.

After the tour, participants will have the opportunity to grab lunch and network at Café Pong inside NRW-Forum or somewhere in town (everyone pays for their own meal).
