Business and Investment Opportunities in Germany’s Growing Hydrogen Ecosystem

The German government sees hydrogen technology as the key to the country's clean energy future. It is investing billions of euros in the sector. Germany aims to become the "world number one" in clean hydrogen energy technology - with the government investing €9bn.

North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), one of the most important economic regions in Europe, accounts for the strongest economic output (GDP), largest population, and highest foreign direct investment (FDI) of all German states.

With its strong and energy intense industry, North Rhine-Westphalia is already working intensively on achieving the Paris climate action targets while strengthening the economic and industrial capabilities at the same time. The establishment of a hydrogen economy is key to this target with the NRW Hydrogen Roadmap as a main pillar. Since the implementation of this roadmap in 2020, the hydrogen related know-how , products and technologies for producing, handling, and distributing hydrogen have evolved rapidly as a highly productive sector. At the same time the demand for technologies and technical solutions is still growing.

Our upcoming business and investment seminar on 16. March 2023, jointly organized by NRW.Global Business and Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), will offer insights into the status of the developing hydrogen ecosystems in Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia with multiple business opportunities for Japanese companies. Company representatives from North Rhine-Westphalia will furthermore introduce their technologies and products as an opportunity for business relationships.
