DJW members Dr. Rolf D. Schlunze, Carsten Watanabe, and Aoi Ono would like to invite you to contribute to the DJW Working Group "Intercultural Management". In our working group, we aim at discussing various intercultural aspects of working in a Japanese-German business environment. The DJW Working Group "Intercultural Management" meets on regular basis to discuss the topic of intercultural competence.

We are delighted to announce that the November session will be conducted in hybrid style - only via Zoom and on-site at Ritsumeikan University. We will receive for our negotiation workshop two experts: Professor William Baber (Kyoto University, Business School) and DJW member Angela Kessel (Director, Access Culture). They will provide guidance to your active participation in our workshop activities on the spot and/or to some extent online. The workshop at OIC is limited to 40 participants on location.

The experts are invited as guest speakers by Ritsumeikan University, thus, students of the cross-cultural management seminar will participate as well.

Agenda (preliminary)

  1. Rolf & Aoi will introduce to the negotiation workshop. (10 min.)
  2. William Baber will feature case studies with the aim to create awareness about the option of negotiating cultural synergy. (ca. 50 min.)
  3. Angela Kessel presents her case study on negotiation in a Japanese German business context. Small groups will be asked to discuss specific questions about a critical incident. Different perspectives will be presented by each group. (50 min.)
  4. Debriefing and wrap up will be guided by the speakers. (10 min.)

Meeting Flow

During our meetings all participants are invited to share their opinion and alternative solutions on these issues. Participants have an opportunity to relate to each other selecting the next speaker themselves.
