Working Group "Intercultural Management": Collaboration between Japanese and European technical teams

DJW members Dr. Rolf D. Schlunze, Carsten Watanabe, and Aoi Ono would like to invite you to contribute to the DJW Working Group "Intercultural Management". In our working group, we aim at discussing various intercultural aspects of working in a Japanese-German business environment. The DJW Working Group "Intercultural Management" meets on regular basis to discuss the topic of intercultural competence.

In today’s session we are shining the light on our guest speakers Dr. Lutz Ose and Izumi Nakamura, who recently teamed up and are dedicated to strengthening collaboration between Japanese and European technical teams.

By drawing on concrete examples based on decades of practical experience of cooperation between Japanese and European companies, we will be going through handpicked scenarios and discussing situations to identify practical steps that enhance clarity, performance, and sustainable collaboration. The focus is on understanding where linguistic and cultural differences affect engineering projects and how communication structures can be better aligned to improve efficiency and trust. We will show how openly addressing misunderstandings and differing expectations, can transform intercultural challenges into long-term partnership value.

We would like to encourage everybody to contribute with your own experiences to improve our intercultural competence.
