Together with DoKomi, we invite interested members and companies to join us for this DJW “Hiru no Kai”. Over the past thirteen years, DoKomi has evolved into the most-visited and most trending convention for Japanese pop culture in Germany, focusing on anime, manga, cosplay, games, fashion, music and food.
Due to a larger awareness of Japanese products and the by now firmly established acceptance of Japanese pop culture among the younger generation in particular, we can observe an increasing number of shops with Japanese goods in Germany. In addition, the Japanese restaurant scene is also diversifying, with more and more specialty restaurants and cafés popping up. These restaurants, which specialize in one kind of dish such as sushi, ramen, grilled meat (yakiniku) or tonkatsu, are a reflection of the restaurant scene in Japan, where it is common that a restaurant revolves around one special kind of food, which it strives to bring to perfection.
One reason for the growing interest in Japanese food and lifestyle is the popularity of Japanese pop culture, particularly anime and manga. What was a niche market ten or fifteen years ago has now firmly taken hold as a business in Germany, paving the way for other sectors that benefit from the interest in pop culture.
The speakers at our DJW “Hiru no Kai” will share their first-hand experience in their respective field of business, and we will get to learn more about the environment they operate. We will look at how pop culture and other businesses influence each other and offer networking opportunities with market actors.
