LinkedIn for Japanese Expats

Japamburg is a non-profit German-Japanese network founded in 2020 and based in Hamburg. The community aims at linking business representatives in Hamburg, Germany and Japan even more closely via regular event formats covering innovation topics of German-Japanese interest. Since 2023, Japamburg is organized within DJW as working group creating deepening synergies between our two organizations.

Moving to Germany as a Japanese professional comes with many new experiences: a different country, a different working culture, new expectations — and perhaps the question: Where do I fit in all of this?

With this new format combining a scientific-informative part and a hands-on workshop, Japamburg is creating a space specifically for Japanese professionals and expats in Germany offering perspectives, practical insights and guidance for navigating the German working world.

Our Speaker

Dr. Ruth Achenbach, Senior Lecturer (tenured), Goethe University Frankfurt

Ruth Achenbach has just concluded a research project on labor migration from Japan to Germany. She will give us a research-based perspective on the experiences and working realities of Japanese professionals in Germany, sharing insights from her recently published work and highlighting patterns you may already recognize from your own experience.

In an interactive “Rock Your Profile” session, Jean-Luc will take a hands-on approach to your LinkedIn profile, professional positioning, and visibility. He will share practical ideas on how to navigate the business world, tell your professional story, and make your profile and expertise visible in a way that works for you.

Networking and Drinks

After the talks, there will be plenty of time to exchange experiences, share ideas and connect with other Japanese professionals in Germany while enjoying a drink and a relaxed evening together.
