The German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Japan (AHK Japan) and the Japanese-German Business Association (DJW) would like to invite you to our “German Economic Roundtable in Osaka” networking event. The joint cooperation was initiated in 2017 and we are happy to continue the tradition of providing opportunities for the German-Japanese business community to meet and network in Kansai area.
With each roundtable, we address a topic of mutual interest for both our countries. This time, we will discuss the challenging Japanese job market and how foreign companies may position themselves as attractive employers. The roundtable’s focus will lie on the merits and value of a gender diverse workforce and teams as a strategy to position German and Japanese companies as attractive employers to people in all stages of their lives and careers. In Japan in particular, women are still lagging behind in ensuring a stable position and improving their status in the corporate world, with approximately 40% of working women in non-regular employment and are obliged with relatively low salaries accordingly.
We would be happy to have a frank exchange of opinions from both Japanese and German perspectives on what measures can be taken to change this situation, and what should be done by the government, companies, and workers levels. The roundtable’s speakers will shed light on the challenges companies and team leaders face when thriving for a gender diverse team and will share their insights and own experiences into which strategies bear fruits and which ones do not.
