DJW "Asa no Kai"

Bionic is the application of biological methods and systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology. Most prominent example is the communication within the army of ants: In order to achieve a common goal they need to be able to communicate long-distance and adapt to altering surrounding aspects. Industry 4.0 follows the same aspiration: Machines need to learn automatically how to communicate with each other and autonomously adjust their decisions accordingly. Hence, requirements of the technology of the future are high - flexible adaption to rapidly changing situations, identification of blind spots and potential cost reduction, data management, as well as data analytics are only a few necessary functions.

Our speakers shared their experience and expertise with Bionics and implications for Industry 4.0 in Germany and Japan.

Speaker

Eberhard Klotz studied Communication Engineering first and did later on an European Executive MBA at Henley Management College and University of West London. He has working experience with Mannesmann-Kienzle, Siemens, Bosch and started at Festo in 1990. He has been always in touch with latest fieldbus and communication technology: in R&D, product management, strategic sales/marketing concepts. More than 9 years ago he was appointed to lead the campaign of intelligent automation (180 mio € turnover) and later he was responsible for Festo's Industry 4.0 campaign for many years. Since 2019 he is appointed as the Global Sales Director for Industry 4.0 and Digitalisation at Festo.

Juergen Boeck studied Precision Engineering and joined Festo in 1995. He worked in R&D as well as in project management in Festo headquarters, followed by positions of technical support engineer, technical management and technically focused customer development in Japan. Since 2014 he is working in the team for business development LifeTech consisting of the fields medical industry and laboratory automation at Festo headquarters, also related to the Japanese market.
