Observations of the rituals of daily beauty care as well as different demands and conveniences of the consumers need to be included in the research and development of cosmetics. Due to many different conditions such as climate, culture and product offerings a variety of habits in personal hygiene and beauty care have been established worldwide. These habits are analyzed in the Japanese R&D Center of L’Oréal where about 200 researchers are covering a number of areas of expertise like chemistry, physics, microbiology, and of course the formulation of cosmetic products. Geocosmetics have revealed numerous differences of habits of Japanese, French and German customers which are the basis of product development. Our speaker will share his insight point of view on how L’Oréal applies and integrates the knowledge of the R&D Centers into the market strategies of promoting a new product. He will outline the differences in beauty habits and demands of German and Japanese consumers of cosmetics and their implications for the product development.

Dr. Ludger Neumann, Scientific Director L’Oréal Germany, has been trained as a chemist. After having spent several years in a Japanese company in Japan, he joined L’Oréal in 1996. He has been in charge of scientific and regulatory activities of the L’Oréal Group for various countries.
