In 2011, the German Parliament decided to phase-out nuclear power by 2022. Crucial for this decision was a reassessment of the risks: The nuclear disaster in Fukushima made it obvious that unpredictable hazards would always remain. In addition, the “Ethics Commission for a Safe Energy Supply”, set up by the Federal Government, came to the conclusion that lower-risk technologies can indeed replace nuclear energy on ecologic, economic and social level.
The decision to withdraw from nuclear energy involved a controversial public discussion. How could companies and industry adjust their concepts and strategies? Which shape could the future power generation possibly take? Would a future without nuclear energy be feasible? Our speaker is going to comment on these issues from his personal point of view and expertise.
