Call for Application: Tech Innovation Challenge

In 2021, JETRO launched J-Bridge, a business platform to facilitate collaboration or alliances between Japanese companies and over seas startups/businesses in Europe. JETRO supports cross-border open innovation for accelerating digital transformation (DX) by providing information or supports by coordinators. GTAI and JETRO will organize Tech Innovation Challenge. GTAI and JETRO will call for several Japanese companies in Europe aiming to solve social challenges in cooperation with Startups of the Digital Hub, which promotes internationalization and digitalization of German Startups, initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Climate Action (BMWK). GTAI and JETRO will show the challenges of Japanese companies to the Startups and provide matchmaking opportunities for open in novation. Digital Hub could provide follow-up supports after matchmakings. GTAI, JETRO, JDZB will organize a networking event to sh ow the matchings on August 31 (tbc).

German-Japanese Innovation Initiative 160

On the occasion of the 160th Anniversary of Japanese-German friendship, JETRO and GTAI launched the “Japanese-German/Germa n-Japanese Innovation Initiative 160” to promote practical solutions for current global matters such as aging society, the COVID-19 crisis, global warming, SDGs, and so on. JETRO and GTAI will annually co-organize supporting programs and mutual introduction of cases, and play up successful innovativ e cases of Japanese and German companies/ organizations, through supporting Start-Ups and business matchings by Japanese and German industrial supporting organizations as follows:

1. Joint business networking events
2. Announcement of several “Best practices of the Year on Japanese-German/ German-Japanese innovation” through supporting 160 cases
• by big companies, SMEs, organizations
• with sustainability, originality, and innovation
• contributing to solving global matters such as aging society, the COVID-19 crisis, global warming or SDGs

Focus area

• Carbon Neutrality: Sustainable use of energy and natural resources, Circular economy, AI, NLP, blockchain (with application to climate change)
• Digitalization: robotics, VR/CD, mobility, communication, fintech, and so on (upon your request)

Participation requirements

• Japanese subsidiaries in Europe who are J-Bridge Members; Please register for J-Bridge
• Submission of 1-2 Challenges
• Availability of present challenge in video call format to startups from Digital Hub Initiative
• Participate in jury and selection of startup winner for own challenge during physical networking event
